ENTRY TEST TIPS FOR A LEVEL STUDENTS, GIK NUST PIEAS ENTRY TEST TIPS

HOW TO CLEAR NUST,PIEAS & GIKI ENTRY TESTS IF                                       YOU ARE AN A'LEVELS STUDENT!

This article has been written specifically for A'levels students by an A'levels student himself!

Abdur-Rahman,the writer is currently doing mechanical engineering from GIK. He was 35th in GIK, 94th in PIEAS (out of about 9000 students) and 225th in NUST (out of 100,000+ students).Further more, he was also selected in National Chemistry Talent Contest-9.He is one of the four students from Pakistan to represent the country in the upcoming London International Youth Science Forum, which is to be held next month in London. We at ETGL,wish him best of luck!

HOW TO STUDY FOR NUST ENTRANCE TEST (NET) AS AN A'LEVELS STUDENT?

NUST

NET TEST PATTERN
*80 Maths MCQs
*60 Physics MCQs
*30 Chemistry MCQs
*20 English MCQs
*10 Intelligence MCQs
Total=200 MCQs

TOTAL TIME FOR NET
TIME ALLOWED=3 hours

Nust entry test (NET) in my opinion is one of the easiest entry test among all the university entry tests. The test has MCQs directly from the text/concept inside the FSc federal books( PUNJAB TEXT BOOK BOARD) ! NO MCQS WILL COME DIRECTLY FROM YOUR A'LEVELS' BOOKS :( . So you will have to study FSc federal books to do well.

I advise you to leave most of the FSc chemistry book and just study the organic portion from your Alevels and FSc books,as only 15% of the test will be from the chemistry portion.

For physics you should study both the FSc books, but due to the shortage of time you will find it extremely difficult to completely cover the course, there fore you should first study the following topics:

 Electricity complete section(2nd year)
Waves and related chapters(1st year).
You will find the mechanics portion very easy(easier then what you studied at A'levels).
Study the topics mentioned above in detail. For the remaining chapters you should ATLEAST understand all the equations and be able to use them conceptually!

Even if you try all the equations, you should be able to perform very well!

For mathematics, you will have to study as much maths from FSc as possible.I advise you to use KIPS Maths MCQ book,It has some useful equations and tricks at the start of every chapter
Try to practice and learn them by heart (unless there is another way :p )
The important topics for NET are
sequences/series
(1st year),Functions (1st year)
Trignometry (1st year).
The MCQs from calculas (limits, integration and differentiation-2nd year) will generally be simple!
STUDY LIMITS!

HOW TO STUDY FOR PIEAS ENTRANCE TEST  AS AN A'LEVELS STUDENT?
______________________________________________________________________________

PIEAS ENTRY TEST PATTERN
*25 Maths MCQs
PIEAS
*25 Physics MCQs
*25 ChemistryMCQs
*25 English MCQs

MARKING SCHEME FOR PIEAS ENTRY TEST
*+3 for correct MCQ
*-1 for incorrent MCQ
*0 for leaving an MCQ blank
Total=100 MCQs

TOTAL TIME ALLOWED FOR PIEAS ENTRY TEST
TIME ALLOWED=3 hours

Once again the test will have NO MCQs directly from the A'Levels course like NET.The good thing is that the test is more CONCEPTUAL then NET!!!
As PIEAS test is in less than 50 hours,i will give you the last minute tips!
-Revise mechanics from your A'levels books!
-Calculators are allowed, there fore you should be able to solve MCQs of integration/differentiation/summation/vectors using the calculator!

Watch youtube videos or ask your friends for help regarding this issue.
-You should have good knowledge of waves and its expression in terms of  sine and cos. (Clear your concept of phase difference!)
-Practice simple maths like ratios, averages, proportionality etc
-ATTEMPT AS MANY MCQS AS POSSIBLE (BELIEVE ME ITS GOOD...try statistics if you dont beleive!!) I attempted 100/100 and there were many guesses!
-Clear your concepts of entropy, enthalpy and stability for chemistry

.Study as much 1st year chemistry as possible!!
Concepts are important !!
-STUDY AS MUCH FSC AS POSSIBLE!!

GIK ENTRY TEST PATTERN

*30 Maths MCQs
*30 Physics MCQs
*20 English MCQs

GIK ENTRY TEST MARKING SCHEME

*+3 for correct MCQ (For phy and maths only)
*-1 for incorrent MCQ(For phy and maths only)
*+1 for correct MCQ (english)
*0 for incorrent MCQ (english)
*0 for leaving an MCQ blank
TOTAL=80 MCQs

TOTAL TIME ALLOWED FOR GIK ENTRY TEST

TIME ALLOWED=2 hours

The good thing about GIKI for A'levels students is that at GIK have about 40% + A'Levels students in our batch which is quite significant considering the fact that we are in the minority :p This clearly shows that you will have more chances of making it into GIKI!

"FORGET ABOUT CHEMISTRY AS THERE WILL BE NO MCQ FROM CHEMISTRY AT ALL."

Again alot will come from FSc course but the good thing is that the MCQs will be VERY CONCEPTUAL!
Practice your mechanics and revise the concepts!
Last year many MCQs came from the last 3-4 chapter of FSc Physics first year therefore you should study these chapters in detail and PRACTICE ALL THE EQUATIONS!

Again you should  study as much FSc physics as possible.Do revise A'Levels PHYISCS COMPLETELY before the entry test as well!!

I suggest that you use ECAT Dogar (brain buster MCQs only) for GIKI entry test. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER MCQ book for GIKI entry test!

For mathematics again you should use KIPS maths book. You will have to study as much FSc maths as possible but this time your focus should be on CALCULAS (2nd year).
STUDY LIMITS! Sequences and series will again be important. You dont need to revise your A'levels maths!

AT THE END I WILL ASK YOU TO REMEMBER THE ALL-MIGHTY,ALLAH ALL THE TIME AND HAVE FAITH IN HIM! BUT DO WORK HARD!

In sha Allah you all will do great. Please remember me in you prayers!

All the best for the entry tests and if still you still have questions, leave your comments below we will get to them.

*Sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes in the article!

thankyou for this article and can you tell me how should one clear his concepts for physics especially?

First read the topic with through understanding, second attempt easy mcqs and third then move on to a bit tricky mcqs

Read the topic atleast 2 times and with full concentration.Think over every equation until you have reasons for each of the relation in the equation.Understand(Dont learn) the derivation of the equation.Practice easy mcqs followed by the tougher ones.Make notes of the concepts!

Why did you chose GIK instead of NUST or PIEAS?

Check Nust Calculator that help to calculate your merit Nust Aggregate Calculator
