GENERAL ENTRY TEST TIPS, NUST ENTRY TEST FAQS

"Guide lines to attempt an entry test!"

GENERAL ENTRY TEST TIPS, NUST ENTRY TEST FAQS

“How to attempt an entry test” and “what type of questions will

be asked in an entry test” is a frequently asked question by new

applicants? Last year when I was going through the entry test sessions

same was the question which I had in my mind too.

Well, the answer to this question is quite simple and there is a

simple technique for this.

Some of the advices which I would like to give are:

- The questions will be mostly conceptual by conceptual I mean

there will be nothing out of the scope of your books. Every

question in your exam will be in one or the other way related to

your course books. They will include all the things which you have

already studied but they will be asked in a new way.

- You in my opinion should concern more to your course books

rather than different guide books provided by different

academies. These guide books are merely the tactics of the

academies to earn money. So don’t waste time in wrong direction

just get full control over your course books.

- Try to attempt the MCQS if chemistry, physics and maths from

different sources like www.chemcity.com , www.mathcity.com

and www.phycity.com etc. This practice will provide you with a

broad vision and you will get the idea that how different kind of

MCQS can be made from your books.

-I request both the FSc and A-level student not to indulge in

any sort of inferiority complex. Usually I have noticed that Fsc

students think that they are weak in physics and A-level students

think that they are weak in maths. But believe me this is not the

reality whosoever wants to succeed he does. Just think you are

the best and have confidence in your own self.

- One more humble request believe in self study don’t rely on

teachers they are just only to guide you not to spoon feed you. So

make your concepts strong don’t move towards cramming but get

to the base of everything. In this way you will be able to attempt

all the questions by yourself easily.

-Please be fully fresh when you go for the entry test. Have a full

sleep of 8 hrs before the test. I have seen that most of the people

study the whole night before the entry test due to this reason

they are not mentally fresh in the exam and there ability to solve

the problem reduces because of the tiredness they have.

These were some of the advices which I wanted to give to all the new

applicants. I hope these will help you with your entry and IA you will

succeed.

HOW TO STUDY FOR MCAT?

HOW TO STUDY FOR MCAT? MCAT TIPS, MCAT PREPARATION TIPS

Hassaan Imtiaz, the writer is currently studying medical from the prestigious king

edward medical college. He was fifth in Lahore board in both FSc and matriculation

with 1022 and 1013 marks respectively. He had also scored 1000 in MCAT and was

one of the fifty students from Pakistan to attend the National Chemistry Talent

Contest held in the Karachi University.

Having problems with your study schedule ?
Clueless regarding where to start and how to start?
Puzzled on how to get in the nerdy mode efficiently, without risking much of your sanity?
Looking for a few tips every now and then that might help you to get through this horror part of
life with flying colors?

I am studying at K.E.M.U. My dear juniors, these advices that i will give you is not that I am

bragging or i don't want to sound like parents , its just a little experience and prevent you from

doing same mistakes and blunders that I did. So. now come to the points. The tactics and skills

you will need for study before MCAT and during the test :-

BOOKS and UHS syllabus:

The MAIN THING for MCAT study , everything comes from Fsc books for phy, chem and bio

corresponding to the UHS syllabus. Not a single mcq comes out of the UHS prescribed syllabi.
Learn and teach others.
What you study after memorizing it try to teach others. It will help you to keep you remember

. Lectures of academy are too difficult so that you will stick to them till end. They just give you so

much extra knowledge that will just give you tension. Self study is one of the major key to

success........

HOW TO STUDY FOR MCAT? MCAT TIPS, MCAT PREPARATION TIPS

Time Management:
.
Opened a book and sat for some time staring at it blankly?

Took a pen or highlighter, underlined and highlighted stuff just for the heck of it?

Looked at the clock, jaw-dropped, an hour had already passed and you are still on the same

freaking page!!!
Relax.... You are not alone. It happens…and know what the problem is?
Solution: nip the evil in the bud. Stop avoiding the clock, sit in front of it. Consider it a duel with

time, the old fashioned style, mano-a-mano. Note down how many pages you finish in how

much time. Determine the rate and see what you can do to improve it. Where are you slacking

and where can you enhance your output in shorter amounts of time.

Make Notes:

Try to make notes of important points from the book on separate notebook. Because last two

three days you do not get a time to study whole book. Those days these notebooks will be very

useful and learn by writing things.

Past Papers:
Past papers are very important to judge what types of questions are asked. And about 15 to 20

mcqs came from past papers during my year. Gather it from somewhere ... some of your

friends may know..

During MCAT:-
How much other has completed or studied overnight is none of your business! How much of

useless or useful stuff

the other knows also should not concern you… not at least when it comes to exam preparation

.Stop eating depressors. There is bigger drama out there to worry your poor soul over and their

preparation is not one of it!
Control your nerves during test.... Control it for 2.30 hours just relax and believe you will ace it.
Cramming of vocab is the most imp thing for english. Grammar questions are easy and you

just need to take to take it easy. Bio paper mostly has the lines from book. Phy is little bit

conceptual but from the book. Understand it . Chem is just normal if you have studied you can

easily ace the MCAT.
At the end, don’t depend on complete cramming and burning the midnight oil. Add a little bit of

creativity, a little bit of edge and a little bit of brains to you way of study. Prettier colors of the

chemical mixture guaranteed

ENTRY TEST TIPS FOR A LEVEL STUDENTS, GIK NUST PIEAS ENTRY TEST TIPS

HOW TO CLEAR NUST,PIEAS & GIKI ENTRY TESTS IF                                       YOU ARE AN A'LEVELS STUDENT!

This article has been written specifically for A'levels students by an A'levels student himself!

Abdur-Rahman,the writer is currently doing mechanical engineering from GIK. He was 35th in GIK, 94th in PIEAS (out of about 9000 students) and 225th in NUST (out of 100,000+ students).Further more, he was also selected in National Chemistry Talent Contest-9.He is one of the four students from Pakistan to represent the country in the upcoming London International Youth Science Forum, which is to be held next month in London. We at ETGL,wish him best of luck!

HOW TO STUDY FOR NUST ENTRANCE TEST (NET) AS AN A'LEVELS STUDENT?

__________________________________________________________________________________
NUST

NET TEST PATTERN
*80 Maths MCQs
*60 Physics MCQs
*30 Chemistry MCQs
*20 English MCQs
*10 Intelligence MCQs
Total=200 MCQs

TOTAL TIME FOR NET
TIME ALLOWED=3 hours

Nust entry test (NET) in my opinion is one of the easiest entry test among all the university entry tests. The test has MCQs directly from the text/concept inside the FSc federal books( PUNJAB TEXT BOOK BOARD) ! NO MCQS WILL COME DIRECTLY FROM YOUR A'LEVELS' BOOKS :( . So you will have to study FSc federal books to do well.

I advise you to leave most of the FSc chemistry book and just study the organic portion from your Alevels and FSc books,as only 15% of the test will be from the chemistry portion.

For physics you should study both the FSc books, but due to the shortage of time you will find it extremely difficult to completely cover the course, there fore you should first study the following topics:

 Electricity complete section(2nd year)
Waves and related chapters(1st year).
You will find the mechanics portion very easy(easier then what you studied at A'levels).
Study the topics mentioned above in detail. For the remaining chapters you should ATLEAST understand all the equations and be able to use them conceptually!

Even if you try all the equations, you should be able to perform very well!

For mathematics, you will have to study as much maths from FSc as possible.I advise you to use KIPS Maths MCQ book,It has some useful equations and tricks at the start of every chapter
Try to practice and learn them by heart (unless there is another way :p )
The important topics for NET are
sequences/series
(1st year),Functions (1st year)
Trignometry (1st year).
The MCQs from calculas (limits, integration and differentiation-2nd year) will generally be simple!
STUDY LIMITS!

______________________________________________________________________________
HOW TO STUDY FOR PIEAS ENTRANCE TEST  AS AN A'LEVELS STUDENT?
______________________________________________________________________________

PIEAS ENTRY TEST PATTERN
*25 Maths MCQs
PIEAS
*25 Physics MCQs
*25 ChemistryMCQs
*25 English MCQs

MARKING SCHEME FOR PIEAS ENTRY TEST
*+3 for correct MCQ
*-1 for incorrent MCQ
*0 for leaving an MCQ blank
Total=100 MCQs

TOTAL TIME ALLOWED FOR PIEAS ENTRY TEST
TIME ALLOWED=3 hours

Once again the test will have NO MCQs directly from the A'Levels course like NET.The good thing is that the test is more CONCEPTUAL then NET!!!
As PIEAS test is in less than 50 hours,i will give you the last minute tips!
-Revise mechanics from your A'levels books!
-Calculators are allowed, there fore you should be able to solve MCQs of integration/differentiation/summation/vectors using the calculator!

Watch youtube videos or ask your friends for help regarding this issue.
-You should have good knowledge of waves and its expression in terms of  sine and cos. (Clear your concept of phase difference!)
-Practice simple maths like ratios, averages, proportionality etc
-ATTEMPT AS MANY MCQS AS POSSIBLE (BELIEVE ME ITS GOOD...try statistics if you dont beleive!!) I attempted 100/100 and there were many guesses!
-Clear your concepts of entropy, enthalpy and stability for chemistry

.Study as much 1st year chemistry as possible!!
Concepts are important !!
-STUDY AS MUCH FSC AS POSSIBLE!!

HOW TO STUDY FOR GIKI ENTRANCE TEST  AS AN A'LEVELS STUDENT?

GIKI

*PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE AS WELL:  click here

GIK ENTRY TEST PATTERN

*30 Maths MCQs
*30 Physics MCQs
*20 English MCQs

GIK ENTRY TEST MARKING SCHEME

*+3 for correct MCQ (For phy and maths only)
*-1 for incorrent MCQ(For phy and maths only)
*+1 for correct MCQ (english)
*0 for incorrent MCQ (english)
*0 for leaving an MCQ blank
TOTAL=80 MCQs

TOTAL TIME ALLOWED FOR GIK ENTRY TEST

TIME ALLOWED=2 hours

The good thing about GIKI for A'levels students is that at GIK have about 40% + A'Levels students in our batch which is quite significant considering the fact that we are in the minority :p This clearly shows that you will have more chances of making it into GIKI!

"FORGET ABOUT CHEMISTRY AS THERE WILL BE NO MCQ FROM CHEMISTRY AT ALL."

Again alot will come from FSc course but the good thing is that the MCQs will be VERY CONCEPTUAL!
Practice your mechanics and revise the concepts!
Last year many MCQs came from the last 3-4 chapter of FSc Physics first year therefore you should study these chapters in detail and PRACTICE ALL THE EQUATIONS!

Again you should  study as much FSc physics as possible.Do revise A'Levels PHYISCS COMPLETELY before the entry test as well!!

I suggest that you use ECAT Dogar (brain buster MCQs only) for GIKI entry test. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER MCQ book for GIKI entry test!

For mathematics again you should use KIPS maths book. You will have to study as much FSc maths as possible but this time your focus should be on CALCULAS (2nd year).
STUDY LIMITS! Sequences and series will again be important. You dont need to revise your A'levels maths!

_____________________________________________________________________________
AT THE END I WILL ASK YOU TO REMEMBER THE ALL-MIGHTY,ALLAH ALL THE TIME AND HAVE FAITH IN HIM! BUT DO WORK HARD!

In sha Allah you all will do great. Please remember me in you prayers!

All the best for the entry tests and if still you still have questions, leave your comments below we will get to them.
