This article hopefully will answer all of your questions regarding GIK Entry test.

What does GIK expect from you in GIK Entry Test?

The GIKI entry test does not require you to cram any sort of historical data regarding laws or 
discoveries and stuff like that. The GIK Entry test focuses just on checking whether you have gained a sound understanding of the concepts you learned in mathematics and physics. Don’t go for lengthy proofs of theorems but you ‘should’ have a good understanding of how things work as opposed to cramming everything without understanding.  

As GIK Entry test date is drawing near what is the most important thing one should do regarding preparation for GIK Entry test?

As the GIK test date draws near you should focus more on solving MCQs than going  on through the theory again and again.

Which materials should one use for practicing for GIK Entry Test and how does it help?

Best thing is to look for GIK Entry Test past papers. Ask those who have already taken GIK Entry test for past papers. Else the mathematics MCQs of KIPS are good for practicing and sharpening your response time to MCQs. And if you want more you try ‘some’ of the ‘Brain Buster’ MCQs from the ECAT entry test preparation series to increase your speed, but these ECAT MCQs are ‘only’ if you have some extra time ,otherwise the difficulty level of the MCQs of the GIK test is lesser than these MCQs.    

There is perception that GIK Entry test is pro A-levels, so what advice do you have for FSC students who aspire to come to take GIK Entry Test?

For those of you from FSc. your 1st year and 2^nd year mathematics books would suffice for GIK Entry Test and you can also consult “SAT 2 Math Level II C “ if you have time.

How should one tackle Mathematics portion of Gik Entry Test?

Concerning the mathematics portion I would say that some of the MCQs have an answer choice which looks fairly straight forward, but actually that is just to trick you so pay attention to each word of the statement and all the given information and specifically to ‘what’ is required from you (you may have calculated something correctly but that is not what the MCQ asked for).

And What about Physics portion of Gik Entry test?

In the MCQs based on physics besides the numerical type ones some MCQs ask you about the outcome of a particular phenomenon and for these you need to have understood the theory well enough to answer.

The last portion of GIK Entry test is of English, whats the pattern and the how should one prepare?   

Your main focus is the math and physics portion but the English portion could also make a difference for you .In the English portion as there is no negative marking so answer ‘all’ questions.These are of the type: 
synonyms/ antonyms
sentence completion
usages 
reading comprehension etc. 
The ECAT entry test preparation series book could be of help to you for practicing such type of MCQs. If you have the time it would be good if you could go through the ‘SAT 1’  word list.

How many MCQs should one attempt in GIK entrance test to secure admission in GIK?

40 + will put you in a position to get faculty of your choice in GIK.
Generally 30 + are usually enough to get through in gik entrance test. But should attempt maximium of the questions. Because later you might want to change your faculty ( department ) and obviously there are scholarships as well to compete for.

Other tests like NET do not have negative marking, considering that what approach one should follow?

During the GIK entry test you shouldn’t leave a lot of MCQs unattempted for fear of negative marking .I’m not saying that blindly answer all the MCQs which you have no idea about! But as a general rule I would suggest that if you eliminate at least two choices from among the given options the go ahead make an ‘educated guess’ and answer that MCQ on your answer sheet and don’t be worried about the negative marking .The MCQs that you should not answer in gik test at all are the ones about which you don’t have any clue as to what is being asked of you and also the ones in which you can’t eliminate any of the four answer choices.
